With motor vehicle accidents on the rise, patient extrication and vehicle stabilization has become one of the most frequent call types the Bohemia Fire Department responds to today. In order to properly handle any motor vehicle accident as well as be safe and effective rescuers, constant training and exposure to advance training techniques is critical. Recently, four members of the Bohemia Fire Department attended Res-Q-Jack Stabilization University in Cortland NY. Res-Q-Jack manufacturers the most versatile vehicle stabilization and lifting struts on the market today. During this two-day hands-on training program, the team learned the latest in vehicle stabilization and advanced lifting techniques. The course included:
• Stabilization and lifting concepts
• Basic wheel-resting, side-resting and roof-resting stabilization and lifting
• Controlled Roll and advance vehicle rollover techniques
• Basic and advanced vehicle override setups
